Can LLMs Time Travel? Enhancing Temporal Consistency in Legal Agentic Search through Reinforcement Learning

arXiv:2605.25920v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: While large language models (LLMs) augmented with agentic search capabilities show promise for legal reasoning, they overlook a fundamental constraint that applicable law must match the temporal context of each case, as retroactive application of statutes violates core legal principles and leads to erroneous conclusions. Our observations reveal that current legal LLMs suffer from temporal bias anchored to their training cutoff, while search agents rarely incorporate temporal constraints into queries, and that web search alone cannot provide the precise statute and precedent citations that legal reasoning demands. To address these challenges, we propose LegalSearch-R1, an end-to-end reinforcement learning framework that pairs local statute RAG for precise article matching with online web search for broader legal knowledge, trained on temporally-indexed data spanning multiple amendment periods to enforce temporal consistency. Extensive experiments on our benchmark covering 13 legal tasks demonstrate that our 7B-parameter agent outperforms state-of-the-art deep research frameworks and specialized legal LLMs by 12.9% to 29.8%, surpasses baselines by 57.7% to 80.3% on temporal consistency, and exhibits robust out-of-domain generalization. The code and data are available at https://github.com/AlexFanw/LegalSearch-R1.

PsychAgent: An Experience-Driven Lifelong Learning Agent for Self-Evolving Psychological Counselor

arXiv:2604.00931v2 Announce Type: replace Abstract: Existing methods for AI psychological counselors predominantly rely on supervised fine-tuning using static dialogue datasets. However, this contrasts with human experts, who continuously refine their proficiency through clinical practice and accumulated experience. To bridge this gap, we propose an Experience-Driven Lifelong Learning Agent (\texttt{PsychAgent}) for psychological counseling. First, we establish a Memory-Augmented Planning Engine tailored for longitudinal multi-session interactions, which ensures therapeutic continuity through persistent memory and strategic planning. Second, to support self-evolution, we design a Skill Evolution Engine that extracts new practice-grounded skills from historical counseling trajectories. Finally, we introduce a Reinforced Internalization Engine that integrates the evolved skills into the model via rejection fine-tuning, aiming to improve performance across diverse scenarios. Comparative analysis shows that our approach achieves higher scores than strong general LLMs (e.g., GPT-5.4, Gemini-3) and domain-specific baselines across all reported evaluation dimensions. These results suggest that lifelong learning can improve the consistency and overall quality of multi-session counseling responses.

Research on the compatibility mechanism of the Tingli Dazao Xiefei Decoction by multi-organ metabolomics strategy

J Ethnopharmacol. 2026 Mar 21:121548. doi: 10.1016/j.jep.2026.121548. Online ahead of print.

ABSTRACT

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: The Tingli Dazao Xiefei Decoction (TD) is a traditional phlegm-eliminating prescription composed of Descurainia sophia (L.) Webb. ex Prantl (TLZ) and Ziziphus jujuba Mill. (DZ), which can relieve lung, heart and kidney injury in asthma. TLZ acts as the monarch drug in the TD. Based on the research mode of "material basis of traditional Chinese medicinal properties can be divided and combined", we have confirmed that the flavonoid glycosides components /the oligosaccharide components/the fatty oil component (FG/Oli/FO) are effective components of TLZ. However, the compatibility mechanism of the TD, and the contribution of the effective components of TLZ to the efficacy were still unclear.

AIM OF THE STUDY: To clarify the compatibility mechanism of TD, and the contribution of the effective components of TLZ to the efficacy from a comprehensive perspective of lung, heart, and kidney.

METHODS: First, we chose the asthma model corresponding to the efficacy of TD in purging the lungs and relieving asthma, and the rats were divided into the normal (NC) group, model (M) group, dexamethasone (DEX) group, and treatment groups of TD/TLZ/DZ/FO+DZ/Oli+DZ/FG+DZ. Second, metabolomics and network pharmacology were applied to elucidate the comprehensive protective effect of TD/FG+DZ/Oli+DZ/FO+DZ. Third, the multi-omics results were validated using Western blotting, RT-qPCR, flow cytometry, and immunofluorescence.

RESULTS: FO+DZ/Oli+DZ/FG+DZ had different degrees of protective effects against lung/heart/kidney injury in asthma. In metabolomics research, the principal component analysis (PCA) and cluster analysis results showed that the TLZ group was closer to TD group than DZ group, the FO+DZ and Oli+DZ group clustered with TD/NC groups in the lung and kidney, and the FO+DZ and FG+DZ group clustered with TD/NC groups in the heart. Pathway enrichment analysis suggested that the comprehensive protective effect of TLZ and its effective components combined with DZ on lung/heart/kidney may be achieved by regulating the arginine and proline metabolism, alanine, aspartate and glutamate metabolism, and unsaturated fatty acid biosynthesis. Multi-organ metabolomics and network pharmacology revealed consistent biological functions in KEGG pathways. Validation experiment showed that TLZ and its effective components combined with DZ could reverse the abnormal expression of proteins and RNA related to inflammation, airway remodeling, excitotoxicity, and energy-supply, apoptosis at different levels. Furthermore, FO+DZ may reduce asthma damage by inhibiting the FABP4/PPAR-γ/NF-κB signaling pathway.

CONCLUSION: TLZ played the key role in TD, and FO had the best therapeutic effect on each organ; the efficacy of Oli was mainly reflected in reducing lung and kidney damage, and FG was mainly involved in enhancing energy metabolism in the heart. These findings proved that traditional Chinese medicine could exert comprehensive efficacy in a 'multi-components trigger multi-channel' way.

Empowering Semantic-Sensitive Underwater Image Enhancement with VLM

arXiv:2603.12773v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: In recent years, learning-based underwater image enhancement (UIE) techniques have rapidly evolved. However, distribution shifts between high-quality enhanced outputs and natural images can hinder semantic cue extraction for downstream vision tasks, thereby limiting the adaptability of existing enhancement models. To address this challenge, this work proposes a new learning mechanism that leverages Vision-Language Models (VLMs) to empower UIE models with semantic-sensitive capabilities. To be concrete, our strategy first generates textual descriptions of key objects from a degraded image via VLMs. Subsequently, a text-image alignment model remaps these relevant descriptions back onto the image to produce a spatial semantic guidance map. This map then steers the UIE network through a dual-guidance mechanism, which combines cross-attention and an explicit alignment loss. This forces the network to focus its restorative power on semantic-sensitive regions during image reconstruction, rather than pursuing a globally uniform improvement, thereby ensuring the faithful restoration of key object features. Experiments confirm that when our strategy is applied to different UIE baselines, significantly boosts their performance on perceptual quality metrics as well as enhances their performance on detection and segmentation tasks, validating its effectiveness and adaptability.

Integrating Unstructured Text into Causal Inference: Empirical Evidence from Real Data

arXiv:2602.14274v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: Causal inference, a critical tool for informing business decisions, traditionally relies heavily on structured data. However, in many real-world scenarios, such data can be incomplete or unavailable. This paper presents a framework that leverages transformer-based language models to perform causal inference using unstructured text. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our framework by comparing causal estimates derived from unstructured text against those obtained from structured data across population, group, and individual levels. Our findings show consistent results between the two approaches, validating the potential of unstructured text in causal inference tasks. Our approach extends the applicability of causal inference methods to scenarios where only textual data is available, enabling data-driven business decision-making when structured tabular data is scarce.
