SortedRL: Accelerating RL Training for LLMs through Online Length-Aware Scheduling

arXiv:2603.23414v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: Scaling reinforcement learning (RL) has shown strong promise for enhancing the reasoning abilities of large language models (LLMs), particularly in tasks requiring long chain-of-thought generation. However, RL training efficiency is often bottlenecked by the rollout phase, which can account for up to 70% of total training time when generating long trajectories (e.g., 16k tokens), due to slow autoregressive generation and synchronization overhead between rollout and policy updates. We propose SortedRL, an online length-aware scheduling strategy designed to address this bottleneck by improving rollout efficiency and maintaining training stability. SortedRL reorders rollout samples based on output lengths, prioritizing short samples forming groups for early updates. This enables large rollout batches, flexible update batches, and near on-policy micro-curriculum construction simultaneously. To further accelerate the pipeline, SortedRL incorporates a mechanism to control the degree of off-policy training through a cache-based mechanism, and is supported by a dedicated RL infrastructure that manages rollout and update via a stateful controller and rollout buffer. Experiments using LLaMA-3.1-8B and Qwen-2.5-32B on diverse tasks, including logical puzzles, and math challenges like AIME 24, Math 500, and Minerval, show that SortedRL reduces RL training bubble ratios by over 50%, while attaining 3.9% to 18.4% superior performance over baseline given same amount of data.

Improving Diffusion Planners by Self-Supervised Action Gating with Energies

arXiv:2603.02650v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: Diffusion planners are a strong approach for offline reinforcement learning, but they can fail when value-guided selection favours trajectories that score well yet are locally inconsistent with the environment dynamics, resulting in brittle execution. We propose Self-supervised Action Gating with Energies (SAGE), an inference-time re-ranking method that penalises dynamically inconsistent plans using a latent consistency signal. SAGE trains a Joint-Embedding Predictive Architecture (JEPA) encoder on offline state sequences and an action-conditioned latent predictor for short horizon transitions. At test time, SAGE assigns each sampled candidate an energy given by its latent prediction error and combines this feasibility score with value estimates to select actions. SAGE can integrate into existing diffusion planning pipelines that can sample trajectories and select actions via value scoring; it requires no environment rollouts and no policy re-training. Across locomotion, navigation, and manipulation benchmarks, SAGE improves the performance and robustness of diffusion planners.

Prior-Guided Symbolic Regression: Towards Scientific Consistency in Equation Discovery

arXiv:2602.13021v2 Announce Type: replace-cross Abstract: Symbolic Regression (SR) aims to discover interpretable equations from observational data, with the potential to reveal underlying principles behind natural phenomena. However, existing approaches often fall into the Pseudo-Equation Trap: producing equations that fit observations well but remain inconsistent with fundamental scientific principles. A key reason is that these approaches are dominated by empirical risk minimization, lacking explicit constraints to ensure scientific consistency. To bridge this gap, we propose PG-SR, a prior-guided SR framework built upon a three-stage pipeline consisting of warm-up, evolution, and refinement. Throughout the pipeline, PG-SR introduces a prior constraint checker that explicitly encodes domain priors as executable constraint programs, and employs a Prior Annealing Constrained Evaluation (PACE) mechanism during the evolution stage to progressively steer discovery toward scientifically consistent regions. Theoretically, we prove that PG-SR reduces the Rademacher complexity of the hypothesis space, yielding tighter generalization bounds and establishing a guarantee against pseudo-equations. Experimentally, PG-SR outperforms state-of-the-art baselines across diverse domains, maintaining robustness to varying prior quality, noisy data, and data scarcity.
