Social Media Intervention Based on the Information-Motivation-Behavioral Skills Model Promotes HIV Testing and Reduces High-Risk Behaviors Among Men Who Have Sex With Men in Resource-Limited Settings in China: Randomized Controlled Trial

Background: Social media intervention may enhance HIV prevention among men who have sex with men, but the effect of this intervention in resource-limited settings remains unclear. Objective: This randomized controlled trial evaluated whether a social media intervention grounded in the information-motivation-behavioral skills (IMB) model could be beneficial for HIV prevention among men who have sex with men in resource-limited settings. Methods: Participants were recruited in Nanning, China, between April 2023 and April 2024. Eligible participants were randomly assigned to either the social media intervention group or the routine HIV prevention services control group. Participants in the intervention group received a 3-month social media intervention, which included completing video-based tasks. Baseline surveys were conducted, followed by follow-up surveys every 3 months, for a total of 2 follow-ups. Outcomes included HIV testing uptake, high-risk behavior, AIDS-related knowledge, safe sex self-efficacy, and attitude. Results: A total of 180 eligible men who have sex with men were enrolled (90 per group). Follow-up rates were 97.8% (88/90) and 95.5% (86/90) for the intervention and control groups, respectively. At the follow-ups, the intervention group demonstrated significantly higher uptake of HIV testing, a lower proportion of participants reporting high-risk sexual behaviors, and higher condom use self-efficacy compared to the control group (all

Document Parsing Unveiled: Techniques, Challenges, and Prospects for Structured Information Extraction

arXiv:2410.21169v5 Announce Type: replace-cross Abstract: Document parsing (DP) transforms unstructured or semi-structured documents into structured, machine-readable representations, enabling downstream applications such as knowledge base construction and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG). This survey provides a comprehensive and timely review of document parsing research. We propose a systematic taxonomy that organizes existing approaches into modular pipeline-based systems and unified models driven by Vision-Language Models (VLMs). We provide a detailed review of key components in pipeline systems, including layout analysis and the recognition of heterogeneous content such as text, tables, mathematical expressions, and visual elements, and then systematically track the evolution of specialized VLMs for document parsing. Additionally, we summarize widely adopted evaluation metrics and high-quality benchmarks that establish current standards for parsing quality. Finally, we discuss key open challenges, including robustness to complex layouts, reliability of VLM-based parsing, and inference efficiency, and outline directions for building more accurate and scalable document intelligence systems.

Heracles: Bridging Precise Tracking and Generative Synthesis for General Humanoid Control

arXiv:2603.27756v2 Announce Type: replace-cross Abstract: Achieving general-purpose humanoid control requires a delicate balance between the precise execution of commanded motions and the flexible, anthropomorphic adaptability needed to recover from unpredictable environmental perturbations. Current general controllers predominantly formulate motion control as a rigid reference-tracking problem. While effective in nominal conditions, these trackers often exhibit brittle, non-anthropomorphic failure modes under severe disturbances, lacking the generative adaptability inherent to human motor control. To overcome this limitation, we propose Heracles, a novel state-conditioned diffusion middleware that bridges precise motion tracking and generative synthesis. Rather than relying on rigid tracking paradigms or complex explicit mode-switching, Heracles operates as an intermediary layer between high-level reference motions and low-level physics trackers. By conditioning on the robot's real-time state, the diffusion model implicitly adapts its behavior: it approximates an identity map when the state closely aligns with the reference, preserving zero-shot tracking fidelity. Conversely, when encountering significant state deviations, it seamlessly transitions into a generative synthesizer to produce natural, anthropomorphic recovery trajectories. Our framework demonstrates that integrating generative priors into the control loop not only significantly enhances robustness against extreme perturbations but also elevates humanoid control from a rigid tracking paradigm to an open-ended, generative general-purpose architecture.

From Pixels to Predicates: Learning Symbolic World Models via Pretrained Vision-Language Models

arXiv:2501.00296v4 Announce Type: replace-cross Abstract: Our aim is to learn to solve long-horizon decision-making problems in complex robotics domains given low-level skills and a handful of short-horizon demonstrations containing sequences of images. To this end, we focus on learning abstract symbolic world models that facilitate zero-shot generalization to novel goals via planning. A critical component of such models is the set of symbolic predicates that define properties of and relationships between objects. In this work, we leverage pretrained vision-language models (VLMs) to propose a large set of visual predicates potentially relevant for decision-making, and to evaluate those predicates directly from camera images. At training time, we pass the proposed predicates and demonstrations into an optimization-based model-learning algorithm to obtain an abstract symbolic world model that is defined in terms of a compact subset of the proposed predicates. At test time, given a novel goal in a novel setting, we use the VLM to construct a symbolic description of the current world state, and then use a search-based planning algorithm to find a sequence of low-level skills that achieves the goal. We demonstrate empirically across experiments in both simulation and the real world that our method can generalize aggressively, applying its learned world model to solve problems with a wide variety of object types, arrangements, numbers of objects, and visual backgrounds, as well as novel goals and much longer horizons than those seen at training time.

Cautious Optimizers: Improving Training with One Line of Code

arXiv:2411.16085v4 Announce Type: replace-cross Abstract: AdamW has been the default optimizer for transformer pretraining. For many years, our community searched for faster and more stable optimizers with only constrained positive outcomes. In this work, we propose a \textbf{one-line modification in Pytorch} to any momentum-based optimizer, which we rename cautious optimizer, e.g. C-AdamW and C-Lion. Our theoretical result shows that this modification preserves Adam's Hamiltonian function and it does not break the convergence guarantee under the Lyapunov analysis. In addition, a whole new family of optimizers is revealed by our theoretical insight. Among them, we pick the simplest one for empirical experiments, showing not only consistent speed-up on LLM pretraining, but also image classification, with minimum extra tuning on hyperparameters.
