A Bio-Plausible Visual Neural Network for Locust-Inspired Collision Perception

arXiv:2609.10183v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: Locust visual systems have long served as an important biological paradigm for studying looming perception and collision avoidance. Numerous computational models have successfully reproduced the selective responses of Lobula Giant Movement Detector (LGMD) neurons to approaching objects, thereby emulating the fundamental functionality of the biological system. However, existing models remain limited in biological plausibility and robustness when operating in complex and dynamic visual environments. To address these limitations, we propose a biologically plausible neural network for locust-inspired looming detection. The proposed framework incorporates a spatially isotropic sampling strategy that mimics the ommatidial organization of the locust compound eye, a population-voting mechanism inspired by population coding in biological neural systems, and leaky integrate-and-fire neuronal dynamics to replace conventional sigmoid-based membrane activation. Systematic experiments on synthetic stimuli, laboratory sequences, and real-world driving scenarios demonstrate that the proposed model improves robustness under challenging visual conditions while preserving computational efficiency and enhancing biological fidelity. These results highlight the potential of biologically grounded neural computation for robust and efficient collision perception.

BAAI Cardiac Agent: An intelligent multimodal agent for automated reasoning and diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases from cardiac magnetic resonance imaging

arXiv:2604.04078v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) is a cornerstone for diagnosing cardiovascular disease. However, it remains underutilized due to complex, time-consuming interpretation across multi-sequences, phases, quantitative measures that heavily reliant on specialized expertise. Here, we present BAAI Cardiac Agent, a multimodal intelligent system designed for end-to-end CMR interpretation. The agent integrates specialized cardiac expert models to perform automated segmentation of cardiac structures, functional quantification, tissue characterization and disease diagnosis, and generates structured clinical reports within a unified workflow. Evaluated on CMR datasets from two hospitals (2413 patients) spanning 7-types of major cardiovascular diseases, the agent achieved an area under the receiver-operating-characteristic curve exceeding 0.93 internally and 0.81 externally. In the task of estimating left ventricular function indices, the results generated by this system for core parameters such as ejection fraction, stroke volume, and left ventricular mass are highly consistent with clinical reports, with Pearson correlation coefficients all exceeding 0.90. The agent outperformed state-of-the-art models in segmentation and diagnostic tasks, and generated clinical reports showing high concordance with expert radiologists (six readers across three experience levels). By dynamically orchestrating expert models for coordinated multimodal analysis, this agent framework enables accurate, efficient CMR interpretation and highlights its potentials for complex clinical imaging workflows. Rethinking SNN Online Training and Deployment: Gradient-Coherent Learning via Hybrid-Driven LIF Model

arXiv:2410.07547v3 Announce Type: replace-cross Abstract: Spiking Neural Networks (SNNs) are considered to have enormous potential in the future development of Artificial Intelligence due to their brain-inspired and energy-efficient properties. Compared to vanilla Spatial-Temporal Back-propagation (STBP) training methods, online training can effectively avoid the risk of GPU memory explosion. However, current online learning frameworks cannot tackle the gradient discrepancy problem between the forward and backward process, merely aiming to optimize the GPU memory, resulting in no performance advantages compared to the STBP-based models in the inference stage. To address the aforementioned challenges, we propose Hybrid-Driven Leaky Integrate-and-Fire (HD-LIF) model family for efficient online learning, which respectively adopt different spiking calculation mechanism in the upper-region and lower-region of the firing threshold. We theoretically point out that our learning framework can effectively separate temporal gradients and address the misalignment problem of surrogate gradients, as well as achieving full-stage optimization towards learning precision, memory complexity and power consumption. Experimental results have demonstrated that our scheme is enable to achieve state-of-the-art performance for multiple evaluation metrics, breaking through the traditional paradigm of SNN online training and deployment. Test-Time Learning of Causal Structure from Interventional Data

arXiv:2602.19131v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: Supervised causal learning has shown promise in causal discovery, yet it often struggles with generalization across diverse interventional settings, particularly when intervention targets are unknown. To address this, we propose TICL (Test-time Interventional Causal Learning), a novel method that synergizes Test-Time Training with Joint Causal Inference. Specifically, we design a self-augmentation strategy to generate instance-specific training data at test time, effectively avoiding distribution shifts. Furthermore, by integrating joint causal inference, we developed a PC-inspired two-phase supervised learning scheme, which effectively leverages self-augmented training data while ensuring theoretical identifiability. Extensive experiments on bnlearn benchmarks demonstrate TICL's superiority in multiple aspects of causal discovery and intervention target detection.

DeepFusion: Accelerating MoE Training via Federated Knowledge Distillation from Heterogeneous Edge Devices

arXiv:2602.14301v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: Recent Mixture-of-Experts (MoE)-based large language models (LLMs) such as Qwen-MoE and DeepSeek-MoE are transforming generative AI in natural language processing. However, these models require vast and diverse training data. Federated learning (FL) addresses this challenge by leveraging private data from heterogeneous edge devices for privacy-preserving MoE training. Nonetheless, traditional FL approaches require devices to host local MoE models, which is impractical for resource-constrained devices due to large model sizes. To address this, we propose DeepFusion, the first scalable federated MoE training framework that enables the fusion of heterogeneous on-device LLM knowledge via federated knowledge distillation, yielding a knowledge-abundant global MoE model. Specifically, DeepFusion features each device to independently configure and train an on-device LLM tailored to its own needs and hardware limitations. Furthermore, we propose a novel View-Aligned Attention (VAA) module that integrates multi-stage feature representations from the global MoE model to construct a predictive perspective aligned with on-device LLMs, thereby enabling effective cross-architecture knowledge distillation. By explicitly aligning predictive perspectives, VAA resolves the view-mismatch problem in traditional federated knowledge distillation, which arises from heterogeneity in model architectures and prediction behaviors between on-device LLMs and the global MoE model. Experiments with industry-level MoE models (Qwen-MoE and DeepSeek-MoE) and real-world datasets (medical and finance) demonstrate that DeepFusion achieves performance close to centralized MoE training. Compared with key federated MoE baselines, DeepFusion reduces communication costs by up to 71% and improves token perplexity by up to 5.28%.

MURPHY: Multi-Turn GRPO for Self Correcting Code Generation

arXiv:2511.07833v2 Announce Type: replace-cross Abstract: Reinforcement Learning with Verifiable Rewards(RLVR) has emerged as a powerful framework for enhancing the reasoning capabilities of large language models (LLMs). However, existing approaches such as Group Relative Policy Optimization (GRPO) and its variants, while effective on reasoning benchmarks, struggle with agentic tasks that require iterative decision-making. We introduce MURPHY, a multi-turn RLVR framework that incorporates execution feedback directly into training, extending GRPO to optimize over multi-turn trajectories where models iteratively refine solutions. MURPHY combines a feedback conditioned rollout tree with trajectory-level credit assignment, and uses pruning to reduce the cost of multi-turn optimization. Evaluations on code generation benchmarks with two model families show that MURPHY consistently improves multi-iteration performance, achieving up to an 8% absolute gain in pass@1 over compute-matched GRPO baselines, and outperforming the prior leading method that incorporates multi-turn execution feedback.
