EEGBind: Detecting Source-Level Interictal Epileptiform Discharges via EEG-Centric Multimodal Binding

arXiv:2609.09728v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: Source-level analysis of interictal epileptiform discharges (IEDs) is relevant to presurgical evaluation and treatment planning because it helps characterize where epileptiform activity is likely to arise. Beyond detecting whether an IED is present, this setting requires assigning IED-positive activity to clinically meaningful brain-region categories. This setting is challenging because source-region evidence in short electroencephalography (EEG) windows can be subtle, partial, and affected by subject variability, class imbalance, and imperfect multimodal context. We present EEGBind, an EEG-centric multimodal binding framework for five-class source-level IED classification. EEGBind treats EEG as the primary modality and binds synchronized video-context features around an EEG-centric representation. Instead of relying on early or overly strong multimodal fusion, which may perturb the source-sensitive EEG representation, EEGBind uses video context as auxiliary evidence for robust classification. A view-consistent repair stage is further used to improve hidden-set robustness while preserving the learned source-class boundary. On the NeuroMM 2026 Grand Challenge Track 3 NMM-Source-IED benchmark, EEGBind achieves 0.8395 on weighted-F1 and outperforms strong competitors. These results support EEG-centric multimodal binding as a practical strategy for source-level IED classification. EXPO-FT: Sample-Efficient Reinforcement Learning Finetuning for Vision-Language-Action Models

arXiv:2605.25477v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: The ability to efficiently and reliably learn new tasks has been a foundational challenge in robotics. Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models have demonstrated strong generalization across diverse manipulation tasks, yet pretrained policies consistently fall short of the reliability required for real-world deployment. Reinforcement learning (RL) fine-tuning offers a promising path to bridge this gap, but existing approaches either train from scratch without fully leveraging pretrained priors, or fine-tune VLAs without achieving the sample efficiency and success rates that practical deployment demands. We present EXPO-FT, a system for stable, sample-efficient RL finetuning of pretrained VLA policies that closes this gap. Our system solves a suite of challenging manipulation tasks, including routing string lights and inserting the plug to light it up, striking a pool ball into a pocket, and inserting a flower into a wine bottle, each requiring combinations of high precision, dynamic actions, and robustness to varied initial states. Our system achieves perfect task performance (30/30 successes) across all evaluated tasks within an average of 19.1 minutes of online robot data, outperforming both prior RL-from-scratch and VLA finetuning approaches. We release an open-source codebase with the aim of facilitating broader adoption of RL finetuning of VLA models in robotics.

Towards Effective Orchestration of AI x DB Workloads

arXiv:2603.03772v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: AI-driven analytics are increasingly crucial to data-centric decision-making. The practice of exporting data to machine learning runtimes incurs high overhead, limits robustness to data drift, and expands the attack surface, especially in multi-tenant, heterogeneous data systems. Integrating AI directly into database engines, while offering clear benefits, introduces challenges in managing joint query processing and model execution, optimizing end-to-end performance, coordinating execution under resource contention, and enforcing strong security and access-control guarantees. This paper discusses the challenges of joint DB-AI, or AIxDB, data management and query processing within AI-powered data systems. It presents various challenges that need to be addressed carefully, such as query optimization, execution scheduling, and distributed execution over heterogeneous hardware. Database components such as transaction management and access control need to be re-examined to support AI lifecycle management, mitigate data drift, and protect sensitive data from unauthorized AI operations. We present a design and preliminary results to demonstrate what may be key to the performance for serving AIxDB queries.
