Sim2Sea: Sim-to-Real Policy Transfer for Maritime Vessel Navigation in Congested Waters

arXiv:2603.04057v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: Autonomous navigation in congested maritime environments is a critical capability for a wide range of real-world applications. However, it remains an unresolved challenge due to complex vessel interactions and significant environmental uncertainties. Existing methods often fail in practical deployment due to a substantial sim-to-real gap, which stems from imprecise simulation, inadequate situational awareness, and unsafe exploration strategies. To address these, we propose \textbf{Sim2Sea}, a comprehensive framework designed to bridge simulation and real-world execution. Sim2Sea advances in three key aspects. First, we develop a GPU-accelerated parallel simulator for scalable and accurate maritime scenario simulation. Second, we design a dual-stream spatiotemporal policy that handles complex dynamics and multi-modal perception, augmented with a velocity-obstacle-guided action masking mechanism to ensure safe and efficient exploration. Finally, a targeted domain randomization scheme helps bridge the sim-to-real gap. Simulation results demonstrate that our method achieves faster convergence and safer trajectories than established baselines. In addition, our policy trained purely in simulation successfully transfers zero-shot to a 17-ton unmanned vessel operating in real-world congested waters. These results validate the effectiveness of Sim2Sea in achieving reliable sim-to-real transfer for practical autonomous maritime navigation.

MolReasoner: Toward Effective and Interpretable Reasoning for Molecular LLMs

arXiv:2508.02066v2 Announce Type: replace-cross Abstract: Large Language Models (LLMs) have shown impressive performance across various domains, but their ability to perform molecular reasoning remains underexplored. Existing methods mostly rely on general-purpose prompting, which lacks domain-specific molecular semantics, or fine-tuning, which faces challenges in interpretability and reasoning depth, often leading to structural and textual hallucinations. To address these issues, we introduce MolReasoner, a two-stage framework that transitions LLMs from memorization to high-fidelity chemical reasoning. In the Mol-SFT stage, knowledge-enhanced Chain-of-Thought (CoT) data provides a strong foundation, while the Mol-RL stage refines reasoning using a novel, task-adaptive reward system to mitigate hallucinations. Extensive evaluations demonstrate that MolReasoner significantly outperforms a wide range of strong baselines in both molecule generation and captioning tasks. Further analyses highlight the framework's synergistic design and its ability to produce more interpretable outputs. Our work presents a principled and effective new approach for advancing high-fidelity molecular reasoning.

OmniScience: A Large-scale Multi-modal Dataset for Scientific Image Understanding

arXiv:2602.13758v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: Multimodal Large Language Models demonstrate strong performance on natural image understanding, yet exhibit limited capability in interpreting scientific images, including but not limited to schematic diagrams, experimental characterizations, and analytical charts. This limitation is particularly pronounced in open-source MLLMs. The gap largely stems from existing datasets with limited domain coverage, coarse structural annotations, and weak semantic grounding. We introduce OmniScience, a large-scale, high-fidelity multi-modal dataset comprising 1.5 million figure-caption-context triplets, spanning more than 10 major scientific disciplines. To obtain image caption data with higher information density and accuracy for multi-modal large-model training, we develop a dynamic model-routing re-captioning pipeline that leverages state-of-the-art multi-modal large language models to generate dense, self-contained descriptions by jointly synthesizing visual features, original figure captions, and corresponding in-text references authored by human scientists. The pipeline is further reinforced with rigorous quality filtering and alignment with human expert judgments, ensuring both factual accuracy and semantic completeness, and boosts the image-text multi-modal similarity score from 0.769 to 0.956. We further propose a caption QA protocol as a proxy task for evaluating visual understanding. Under this setting, Qwen2.5-VL-3B model finetuned on OmniScience show substantial gains over baselines, achieving a gain of 0.378 on MM-MT-Bench and a gain of 0.140 on MMMU.

C^2ROPE: Causal Continuous Rotary Positional Encoding for 3D Large Multimodal-Models Reasoning

arXiv:2602.10551v2 Announce Type: replace-cross Abstract: Recent advances in 3D Large Multimodal Models (LMMs) built on Large Language Models (LLMs) have established the alignment of 3D visual features with LLM representations as the dominant paradigm. However, the inherited Rotary Position Embedding (RoPE) introduces limitations for multimodal processing. Specifically, applying 1D temporal positional indices disrupts the continuity of visual features along the column dimension, resulting in spatial locality loss. Moreover, RoPE follows the prior that temporally closer image tokens are more causally related, leading to long-term decay in attention allocation and causing the model to progressively neglect earlier visual tokens as the sequence length increases. To address these issues, we propose C^2RoPE, an improved RoPE that explicitly models local spatial Continuity and spatial Causal relationships for visual processing. C^2RoPE introduces a spatio-temporal continuous positional embedding mechanism for visual tokens. It first integrates 1D temporal positions with Cartesian-based spatial coordinates to construct a triplet hybrid positional index, and then employs a frequency allocation strategy to encode spatio-temporal positional information across the three index components. Additionally, we introduce Chebyshev Causal Masking, which determines causal dependencies by computing the Chebyshev distance of image tokens in 2D space. Evaluation results across various benchmarks, including 3D scene reasoning and 3D visual question answering, demonstrate C^2RoPE's effectiveness. The code is be available at https://github.com/ErikZ719/C2RoPE.
