Breast Cancer Screening Knowledge and Sentiments in Singaporean Women: Mixed Methods Study Using Topic Modeling, Sentiment Analysis, and Structured Questionnaire Data

Background: Mammography screening uptake in Singapore remains below 40% despite campaigns and subsidies. Natural language processing (NLP) can extract nuanced attitudes from free text that fixed response options miss, revealing latent factors influencing breast cancer (BC) screening behavior. Objective: This study characterized women’s attitudes toward mammography using mixed methods data, examined associations between BC awareness and screening willingness, and identified barriers and facilitators through NLP of free-text responses. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study within the multicenter cohort in Singapore (October 2021-December 2023). In total, 4169 women aged 35‐59 years (median 48, IQR 43‐54) were recruited via convenience sampling (3 hospitals and 2 polyclinics). Participants completed online structured questionnaires on demographics and screening history, then a BC education quiz with feedback. Participants answering >80% correctly were classified as “BC-aware.” Posteducation, participants reported screening willingness (motivated or neutral) with optional free-text explanations. Logistic regression models (adjusted for study site, age, ethnicity, marital status, housing, and education) examined the associations with willingness. For 3819 English-language respondents, biterm topic modeling identified themes and sentiment analysis quantified emotional tone. Statistical significance: =.05. Results: Overall, 79% (3287/4169) were BC-aware, and 94% (3908/4169) reported increased motivation posteducation. BC-aware women had higher screening motivation than BC-unaware women (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] 2.88, 95% CI 2.19‐3.80;

Sparsity and Out-of-Distribution Generalization

arXiv:2603.07388v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: Explaining out-of-distribution generalization has been a central problem in epistemology since Goodman's "grue" puzzle in 1946. Today it's a central problem in machine learning, including AI alignment. Here we propose a principled account of OOD generalization with three main ingredients. First, the world is always presented to experience not as an amorphous mass, but via distinguished features (for example, visual and auditory channels). Second, Occam's Razor favors hypotheses that are "sparse," meaning that they depend on as few features as possible. Third, sparse hypotheses will generalize from a training to a test distribution, provided the two distributions sufficiently overlap on their restrictions to the features that are either actually relevant or hypothesized to be. The two distributions could diverge arbitrarily on other features. We prove a simple theorem that formalizes the above intuitions, generalizing the classic sample complexity bound of Blumer et al. to an OOD context. We then generalize sparse classifiers to subspace juntas, where the ground truth classifier depends solely on a low-dimensional linear subspace of the features.

SkillsBench: Benchmarking How Well Agent Skills Work Across Diverse Tasks

arXiv:2602.12670v2 Announce Type: replace Abstract: Agent Skills are structured packages of procedural knowledge that augment LLM agents at inference time. Despite rapid adoption, there is no standard way to measure whether they actually help. We present SkillsBench, a benchmark of 86 tasks across 11 domains paired with curated Skills and deterministic verifiers. Each task is evaluated under three conditions: no Skills, curated Skills, and self-generated Skills. We test 7 agent-model configurations over 7,308 trajectories. Curated Skills raise average pass rate by 16.2 percentage points(pp), but effects vary widely by domain (+4.5pp for Software Engineering to +51.9pp for Healthcare) and 16 of 84 tasks show negative deltas. Self-generated Skills provide no benefit on average, showing that models cannot reliably author the procedural knowledge they benefit from consuming. Focused Skills with 2--3 modules outperform comprehensive documentation, and smaller models with Skills can match larger models without them.

Can Large Language Models Derive New Knowledge? A Dynamic Benchmark for Biological Knowledge Discovery

arXiv:2603.03322v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: Recent advancements in Large Language Model (LLM) agents have demonstrated remarkable potential in automatic knowledge discovery. However, rigorously evaluating an AI's capacity for knowledge discovery remains a critical challenge. Existing benchmarks predominantly rely on static datasets, leading to inevitable data contamination where models have likely seen the evaluation knowledge during training. Furthermore, the rapid release cycles of modern LLMs render static benchmarks quickly outdated, failing to assess the ability to discover truly new knowledge. To address these limitations, we propose DBench-Bio, a dynamic and fully automated benchmark designed to evaluate AI's biological knowledge discovery ability. DBench-Bio employs a three-stage pipeline: (1) data acquisition of rigorous, authoritative paper abstracts; (2) QA extraction utilizing LLMs to synthesize scientific hypothesis questions and corresponding discovery answers; and (3) QA filter to ensure quality based on relevance, clarity, and centrality. We instantiate this pipeline to construct a monthly-updated benchmark covering 12 biomedical sub-domains. Extensive evaluations of SOTA models reveal current limitations in discovering new knowledge. Our work provides the first dynamic, automatic framework for assessing the new knowledge discovery capabilities of AI systems, establishing a living, evolving resource for AI research community to catalyze the development of knowledge discovery.

MeanFlowSE: one-step generative speech enhancement via conditional mean flow

arXiv:2509.14858v3 Announce Type: replace-cross Abstract: Multistep inference is a bottleneck for real-time generative speech enhancement because flow- and diffusion-based systems learn an instantaneous velocity field and therefore rely on iterative ordinary differential equation (ODE) solvers. We introduce MeanFlowSE, a conditional generative model that learns the average velocity over finite intervals along a trajectory. Using a Jacobian-vector product (JVP) to instantiate the MeanFlow identity, we derive a local training objective that directly supervises finite-interval displacement while remaining consistent with the instantaneous-field constraint on the diagonal. At inference, MeanFlowSE performs single-step generation via a backward-in-time displacement, removing the need for multistep solvers; an optional few-step variant offers additional refinement. On VoiceBank-DEMAND, the single-step model achieves strong intelligibility, fidelity, and perceptual quality with substantially lower computational cost than multistep baselines. The method requires no knowledge distillation or external teachers, providing an efficient, high-fidelity framework for real-time generative speech enhancement. The proposed method is open-sourced at https://github.com/liduojia1/MeanFlowSE.

Reshaping MOFs text mining with a dynamic multi-agents framework of large language model

arXiv:2504.18880v4 Announce Type: replace Abstract: Accurately identifying the synthesis conditions of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) is essential for guiding experimental design, yet remains challenging because relevant information in the literature is often scattered, inconsistent, and difficult to interpret. We present MOFh6, a large language model driven system that reads raw articles or crystal codes and converts them into standardized synthesis tables. It links related descriptions across paragraphs, unifies ligand abbreviations with full names, and outputs structured parameters ready for use. MOFh6 achieved 99% extraction accuracy, resolved 94.1% of abbreviation cases across five major publishers, and maintained a precision of 0.93 +/- 0.01. Processing a full text takes 9.6 s, locating synthesis descriptions 36 s, with 100 papers processed for USD 4.24. By replacing static database lookups with real-time extraction, MOFh6 reshapes MOF synthesis research, accelerating the conversion of literature knowledge into practical synthesis protocols and enabling scalable, data-driven materials discovery.

CellINR: Implicitly Overcoming Photo-induced Artifacts in 4D Live Fluorescence Microscopy

arXiv:2508.19300v2 Announce Type: replace-cross Abstract: 4D live fluorescence microscopy is often compromised by prolonged high intensity illumination which induces photobleaching and phototoxic effects that generate photo-induced artifacts and severely impair image continuity and detail recovery. To address this challenge, we propose the CellINR framework, a case-specific optimization approach based on implicit neural representation. The method employs blind convolution and structure amplification strategies to map 3D spatial coordinates into the high frequency domain, enabling precise modeling and high-accuracy reconstruction of cellular structures while effectively distinguishing true signals from artifacts. Experimental results demonstrate that CellINR significantly outperforms existing techniques in artifact removal and restoration of structural continuity, and for the first time, a paired 4D live cell imaging dataset is provided for evaluating reconstruction performance, thereby offering a solid foundation for subsequent quantitative analyses and biological research. The code and dataset will be public.
