Vision-DeepResearch: Incentivizing DeepResearch Capability in Multimodal Large Language Models

arXiv:2601.22060v3 Announce Type: replace-cross Abstract: Multimodal large language models (MLLMs) have achieved remarkable success across a broad range of vision tasks. However, constrained by the capacity of their internal world knowledge, prior work has proposed augmenting MLLMs by ``reasoning-then-tool-call'' for visual and textual search engines to obtain substantial gains on tasks requiring extensive factual information. However, these approaches typically define multimodal search in a naive setting, assuming that a single full-level or entity-level image query and few text query suffices to retrieve the key evidence needed to answer the question, which is unrealistic in real-world scenarios with substantial visual noise. Moreover, they are often limited in the reasoning depth and search breadth, making it difficult to solve complex questions that require aggregating evidence from diverse visual and textual sources. Building on this, we propose Vision-DeepResearch, which proposes one new multimodal deep-research paradigm, i.e., performs multi-turn, multi-entity and multi-scale visual and textual search to robustly hit real-world search engines under heavy noise. Our Vision-DeepResearch supports dozens of reasoning steps and hundreds of engine interactions, while internalizing deep-research capabilities into the MLLM via cold-start supervision and RL training, resulting in a strong end-to-end multimodal deep-research MLLM. It substantially outperforming existing multimodal deep-research MLLMs, and workflows built on strong closed-source foundation model such as GPT-5, Gemini-2.5-pro and Claude-4-Sonnet. The code will be released in https://github.com/Osilly/Vision-DeepResearch.

Regression Models Meet Foundation Models: A Hybrid-AI Approach to Practical Electricity Price Forecasting

arXiv:2603.06726v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: Electricity market prices exhibit extreme volatility, nonlinearity, and non-stationarity, making accurate forecasting a significant challenge. While cutting-edge time series foundation models (TSFMs) effectively capture temporal dependencies, they typically underutilize cross-variate correlations and non-periodic patterns that are essential for price forecasting. Conversely, regression models excel at capturing feature interactions but are limited to future-available inputs, ignoring crucial historical drivers that are unavailable at forecast time. To bridge this gap, we propose FutureBoosting, a novel paradigm that enhances regression-based forecasts by integrating forecasted features generated from a frozen TSFM. This approach leverages the TSFM's ability to model historical patterns and injects these insights as enriched inputs into a downstream regression model. We instantiate this paradigm into a lightweight, plug-and-play framework for electricity price forecasting. Extensive evaluations on real-world electricity market data demonstrate that our framework consistently outperforms state-of-the-art TSFMs and regression baselines, achieving reductions in Mean Absolute Error (MAE) of more than 30% at most. Through ablation studies and explainable AI (XAI) techniques, we validate the contribution of forecasted features and elucidate the model's decision-making process. FutureBoosting establishes a robust, interpretable, and effective solution for practical market participation, offering a general framework for enhancing regression models with temporal context.

Neuro-Symbolic Decoding of Neural Activity

arXiv:2603.03343v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: We propose NEURONA, a neuro-symbolic framework for fMRI decoding and concept grounding in neural activity. Leveraging image- and video-based fMRI question-answering datasets, NEURONA learns to decode interacting concepts from visual stimuli based on patterns of fMRI responses, integrating symbolic reasoning and compositional execution with fMRI grounding across brain regions. We demonstrate that incorporating structural priors (e.g., compositional predicate-argument dependencies between concepts) into the decoding process significantly improves both decoding accuracy over precise queries, and notably, generalization to unseen queries at test time. With NEURONA, we highlight neuro-symbolic frameworks as promising tools for understanding neural activity.

Escaping the BLEU Trap: A Signal-Grounded Framework with Decoupled Semantic Guidance for EEG-to-Text Decoding

arXiv:2603.03312v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: Decoding natural language from non-invasive EEG signals is a promising yet challenging task. However, current state-of-the-art models remain constrained by three fundamental limitations: Semantic Bias (mode collapse into generic templates), Signal Neglect (hallucination based on linguistic priors rather than neural inputs), and the BLEU Trap, where evaluation metrics are artificially inflated by high-frequency stopwords, masking a lack of true semantic fidelity. To address these challenges, we propose SemKey, a novel multi-stage framework that enforces signal-grounded generation through four decoupled semantic objectives: sentiment, topic, length, and surprisal. We redesign the interaction between the neural encoder and the Large Language Model (LLM) by injecting semantic prompts as Queries and EEG embeddings as Key-Value pairs, strictly forcing the model to attend to neural inputs. Furthermore, we move beyond standard translation metrics by adopting N-way Retrieval Accuracy and Fr\'echet Distance to rigorously assess diversity and alignment. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our approach effectively eliminates hallucinations on noise inputs and achieves SOTA performance on these robust protocols. Code will be released upon acceptance at https://github.com/xmed-lab/SemKey.
