Interview-Informed Generative Agents for Product Discovery: A Validation Study

arXiv:2603.29890v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: Large language models (LLMs) have shown strong performance on standardized social science instruments, but their value for product discovery remains unclear. We investigate whether interview-informed generative agents can simulate user responses in concept testing scenarios. Using in-depth workflow interviews with knowledge workers, we created personalized agents and compared their evaluations of novel AI concepts against the same participants' responses. Our results show that agents are distribution-calibrated but identity-imprecise: they fail to replicate the specific individual they are grounded in, yet approximate population-level response distributions. These findings highlight both the potential and the limits of LLM simulation in design research. While unsuitable as a substitute for individual-level insights, simulation may provide value for early-stage concept screening and iteration, where distributional accuracy suffices. We discuss implications for integrating simulation responsibly into product development workflows.

Generative Data Transformation: From Mixed to Unified Data

arXiv:2602.22743v2 Announce Type: replace Abstract: Recommendation model performance is intrinsically tied to the quality, volume, and relevance of their training data. To address common challenges like data sparsity and cold start, recent researchs have leveraged data from multiple auxiliary domains to enrich information within the target domain. However, inherent domain gaps can degrade the quality of mixed-domain data, leading to negative transfer and diminished model performance. Existing prevailing \emph{model-centric} paradigm -- which relies on complex, customized architectures -- struggles to capture the subtle, non-structural sequence dependencies across domains, leading to poor generalization and high demands on computational resources. To address these shortcomings, we propose \textsc{Taesar}, a \emph{data-centric} framework for \textbf{t}arget-\textbf{a}lign\textbf{e}d \textbf{s}equenti\textbf{a}l \textbf{r}egeneration, which employs a contrastive decoding mechanism to adaptively encode cross-domain context into target-domain sequences. It employs contrastive decoding to encode cross-domain context into target sequences, enabling standard models to learn intricate dependencies without complex fusion architectures. Experiments show \textsc{Taesar} outperforms model-centric solutions and generalizes to various sequential models. By generating enriched datasets, \textsc{Taesar} effectively combines the strengths of data- and model-centric paradigms. Association Between Telemedicine Adoption and Physician Job Satisfaction: Cross-Sectional Study

Background: Telemedicine has expanded rapidly in recent years, with particularly pronounced growth following the COVID-19 pandemic. By improving access to care and offering greater flexibility in service delivery, it has become an important component of health care. Although the benefits of telemedicine for patients are well documented, its effects on physician job satisfaction remain insufficiently understood. Given the importance of job satisfaction for workforce stability, physician well-being, and quality of care, further examination of how telemedicine affects physician job satisfaction is warranted. Objective: This study aims to examine the association between telemedicine adoption and physician job satisfaction and to assess whether the physician-patient relationship mediates this association. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among health care professionals in Xi’an, China. Data were collected between November 7 and December 8, 2023, via an online questionnaire administered using the REDCap (Research Electronic Data Capture; Vanderbilt University) platform. A total of 12,052 physicians were included in the analysis. Physician job satisfaction was measured using a validated 6-point Likert scale. Telemedicine adoption was assessed through self-report. A partial proportional odds model was used to examine the association between telemedicine adoption and job satisfaction, adjusting for a comprehensive set of potential confounders. Additionally, the Karlson-Holm-Breen (KHB) decomposition method was used to explore the mediating role of physician-patient relationship quality in this association. Results: Among 12,052 surveyed physicians, 1642 (13.62%) reported adopting telemedicine, whereas 10,410 (86.38%) did not. After adjusting for demographic characteristics, work-related factors, psychological factors, and physician-patient relationship, telemedicine adoption was significantly associated with higher job satisfaction (odds ratio [OR] 1.17, 95% CI 1.05‐1.30). Findings were robust across multiple sensitivity analyses. Subgroup analyses indicated that the association did not vary across physician subgroups, and no significant interaction effects were observed. Mediation analysis revealed a total effect of telemedicine on job satisfaction of 0.33 (95% CI 0.17‐0.50), with an indirect effect of 0.10 (95% CI 0.07‐0.13) through improved physician-patient relationships, accounting for 30.30% of the total effect. Conclusions: These findings suggest that telemedicine adoption is positively associated with physician job satisfaction, partially mediated by the physician-patient relationship. Policies should promote telemedicine adoption while prioritizing platform designs that support effective physician-patient interactions to enhance provider well-being and care outcomes.

EVA: Efficient Reinforcement Learning for End-to-End Video Agent

arXiv:2603.22918v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: Video understanding with multimodal large language models (MLLMs) remains challenging due to the long token sequences of videos, which contain extensive temporal dependencies and redundant frames. Existing approaches typically treat MLLMs as passive recognizers, processing entire videos or uniformly sampled frames without adaptive reasoning. Recent agent-based methods introduce external tools, yet still depend on manually designed workflows and perception-first strategies, resulting in inefficiency on long videos. We present EVA, an Efficient Reinforcement Learning framework for End-to-End Video Agent, which enables planning-before-perception through iterative summary-plan-action-reflection reasoning. EVA autonomously decides what to watch, when to watch, and how to watch, achieving query-driven and efficient video understanding. To train such agents, we design a simple yet effective three-stage learning pipeline - comprising supervised fine-tuning (SFT), Kahneman-Tversky Optimization (KTO), and Generalized Reward Policy Optimization (GRPO) - that bridges supervised imitation and reinforcement learning. We further construct high-quality datasets for each stage, supporting stable and reproducible training. We evaluate EVA on six video understanding benchmarks, demonstrating its comprehensive capabilities. Compared with existing baselines, EVA achieves a substantial improvement of 6-12% over general MLLM baselines and a further 1-3% gain over prior adaptive agent methods. ImplicitRM: Unbiased Reward Modeling from Implicit Preference Data for LLM alignment

arXiv:2603.23184v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: Reward modeling represents a long-standing challenge in reinforcement learning from human feedback (RLHF) for aligning language models. Current reward modeling is heavily contingent upon experimental feedback data with high collection costs. In this work, we study \textit{implicit reward modeling} -- learning reward models from implicit human feedback (e.g., clicks and copies) -- as a cost-effective alternative. We identify two fundamental challenges in implicit reward modeling: (1) Implicit preference data lacks definitive negative samples, which makes standard positive-negative classification methods inapplicable; (2) Implicit preference data suffers from user preference bias, where different responses have different propensities to elicit user feedback actions, which exacerbates the difficulty of distinguishing definitive negative samples. To address these challenges, we propose ImplicitRM, which aims to learn unbiased reward models from implicit preference data. ImplicitRM stratifies training samples into four latent groups via a stratification model. Building on this, it derives a learning objective through likelihood maximization, which we prove is theoretically unbiased, effectively resolving both challenges. Experiments demonstrate that ImplicitRM learns accurate reward models across implicit preference datasets. Code is available on our project website.

An Accurate and Interpretable Framework for Trustworthy Process Monitoring

arXiv:2302.10426v3 Announce Type: replace Abstract: Trustworthy process monitoring seeks to build an accurate and interpretable monitoring framework, which is critical for ensuring the safety of energy conversion plant (ECP) that operates under extreme working conditions such as high pressure and temperature. Contemporary self-attentive models, however, fall short in this domain for two main reasons. First, they rely on step-wise correlations that fail to involve physically meaningful semantics in ECP logs, resulting in suboptimal accuracy and interpretability. Second, attention matrices are frequently cluttered with spurious correlations that obscure physically meaningful ones, further impeding effective interpretation. To overcome these issues, we propose AttentionMixer, a framework aimed at improving both accuracy and interpretability of existing methods and establish a trustworthy ECP monitoring framework. Specifically, to tackle the first issue, we employ a spatial adaptive message passing block to capture variate-wise correlations. This block is coupled with a temporal adaptive message passing block through an \textit{mixing} operator, yielding a multi-faceted representation of ECP logs accounting for both step-wise and variate-wise correlations. Concurrently, to tackle the second issue, we employ a sparse message passing regularizer to filter out spurious correlations. We validate the efficacy of AttentionMixer using two real-world datasets from the radiation monitoring network for Chinese nuclear power plants.

TRACE: A Multi-Agent System for Autonomous Physical Reasoning in Seismological

arXiv:2603.21152v2 Announce Type: replace-cross Abstract: Inferring the physical mechanisms that govern earthquake sequences from indirect geophysical observations remains difficult, particularly across tectonically distinct environments where similar seismic patterns can reflect different underlying processes. Current interpretations rely heavily on the expert synthesis of catalogs, spatiotemporal statistics, and candidate physical models, limiting reproducibility and the systematic transfer of insight across settings. Here we present TRACE (Trans-perspective Reasoning and Automated Comprehensive Evaluator), a multi-agent system that combines large language model planning with formal seismological constraints to derive auditable, physically grounded mechanistic inference from raw observations. Applied to the 2019 Ridgecrest sequence, TRACE autonomously identifies stress-perturbation-induced delayed triggering, resolving the cascading interaction between the Mw 6.4 and Mw 7.1 mainshocks; in the Santorini-Kolumbo case, the system identifies a structurally guided intrusion model, distinguishing fault-channeled episodic migration from the continuous propagation expected in homogeneous crustal failure. By providing a generalizable logical infrastructure for interpreting heterogeneous seismic phenomena, TRACE advances the field from expert-dependent analysis toward knowledge-guided autonomous discovery in Earth sciences.

Partially Recentralization Softmax Loss for Vision-Language Models Robustness

arXiv:2402.03627v4 Announce Type: replace-cross Abstract: As Large Language Models make a breakthrough in natural language processing tasks (NLP), multimodal technique becomes extremely popular. However, it has been shown that multimodal NLP are vulnerable to adversarial attacks, where the outputs of a model can be dramatically changed by a perturbation to the input. While several defense techniques have been proposed both in computer vision and NLP models, the multimodal robustness of models have not been fully explored. In this paper, we study the adversarial robustness provided by modifying loss function of pre-trained multimodal models, by restricting top K softmax outputs. Based on the evaluation and scoring, our experiments show that after a fine-tuning, adversarial robustness of pre-trained models can be significantly improved, against popular attacks. Further research should be studying, such as output diversity, generalization and the robustness-performance trade-off of this kind of loss functions. Our code will be available after this paper is accepted

Efficient Personalized Reranking with Semi-Autoregressive Generation and Online Knowledge Distillation

arXiv:2603.07107v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: Generative models offer a promising paradigm for the final stage reranking in multi-stage recommender systems, with the ability to capture inter-item dependencies within reranked lists. However, their practical deployment still faces two key challenges: (1) an inherent conflict between achieving high generation quality and ensuring low-latency inference, making it difficult to balance the two, and (2) insufficient interaction between user and item features in existing methods. To address these challenges, we propose a novel Personalized Semi-Autoregressive with online knowledge Distillation (PSAD) framework for reranking. In this framework, the teacher model adopts a semi-autoregressive generator to balance generation quality and efficiency, while its ranking knowledge is distilled online into a lightweight scoring network during joint training, enabling real-time and efficient inference. Furthermore, we propose a User Profile Network (UPN) that injects user intent and models interest dynamics, enabling deeper interactions between users and items. Extensive experiments conducted on three large-scale public datasets demonstrate that PSAD significantly outperforms state-of-the-art baselines in both ranking performance and inference efficiency.

Long-Short Term Agents for Pure-Vision Bronchoscopy Robotic Autonomy

arXiv:2603.07909v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: Accurate intraoperative navigation is essential for robot-assisted endoluminal intervention, but remains difficult because of limited endoscopic field of view and dynamic artifacts. Existing navigation platforms often rely on external localization technologies, such as electromagnetic tracking or shape sensing, which increase hardware complexity and remain vulnerable to intraoperative anatomical mismatch. We present a vision-only autonomy framework that performs long-horizon bronchoscopic navigation using preoperative CT-derived virtual targets and live endoscopic video, without external tracking during navigation. The framework uses hierarchical long-short agents: a short-term reactive agent for continuous low-latency motion control, and a long-term strategic agent for decision support at anatomically ambiguous points. When their recommendations conflict, a world-model critic predicts future visual states for candidate actions and selects the action whose predicted state best matches the target view. We evaluated the system in a high-fidelity airway phantom, three ex vivo porcine lungs, and a live porcine model. The system reached all planned segmental targets in the phantom, maintained 80\% success to the eighth generation ex vivo, and achieved in vivo navigation performance comparable to the expert bronchoscopist. These results support the preclinical feasibility of sensor-free autonomous bronchoscopic navigation.

FedMomentum: Preserving LoRA Training Momentum in Federated Fine-Tuning

arXiv:2603.08014v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: Federated fine-tuning of large language models (LLMs) with low-rank adaptation (LoRA) offers a communication-efficient and privacy-preserving solution for task-specific adaptation. Naive aggregation of LoRA modules introduces noise due to mathematical incorrectness when averaging the downsampling and upsampling matrices independently. However, existing noise-free aggregation strategies inevitably compromise the structural expressiveness of LoRA, limiting its ability to retain client-specific adaptations by either improperly reconstructing the low-rank structure or excluding partially trainable components. We identify this problem as loss of training momentum, where LoRA updates fail to accumulate effectively across rounds, resulting in slower convergence and suboptimal performance. To address this, we propose FedMomentum, a novel framework that enables structured and momentum-preserving LoRA aggregation via singular value decomposition (SVD). Specifically, after aggregating low-rank updates in a mathematically correct manner, FedMomentum applies SVD to extract the dominant components that capture the main update directions. These components are used to reconstruct the LoRA modules with the same rank, while residual components can be retained and later merged into the backbone to preserve semantic information and ensure robustness. Extensive experiments across multiple tasks demonstrate that FedMomentum consistently outperforms prior state-of-the-art methods in convergence speed and final accuracy.
